Bikeland is Proud to Sponsor the Big Chain Ring Challenge Mountain Bike Race
We are proud to be the top bike sponsor of the 2006 Houston Big Chain Ring Challenge. Hold on to your hat and get ready for a fun weekend of Fun, Friends, Food, and TMBRA racing!

Join your friends in the Sam Houston National Forest for the seventh race of the 2006 Texas Mountain Bike Championship Series, May 6-7.

Sponsors are helping the Greater Houston Off Road Biking Association offer this race for the fourth time. Experienced Race Director Brian Thigpen and the GHORBA crew are working hard to prepare this event.

If you'd like to help with organizing, course marshalling or other race-prep and race-day activities, please email volunteering@ghorba.org.

The Big Ring Challenge is one of GHORBA's largest fundraising events. All the profit from this race helps fund the maintenance and building of new and current trails in the Houston Area. The money is used for tools, equipment, wood for bridges, as well as supporting GHORBA's Sprockids program. No one gets paid. All of the money goes to these programs, so your money is put to good use in the Houston Area.

Hope to see you at the race!!

Bikeland is Proud to Sponsor the Third Annual
CB&I Triathlon in The Woodlands, Texas on May
6th

On its third year as one of the premier multi-sport
events in the region, CB&I Tri – The Woodlands
offers high-caliber competition, first-rate race
management and a scenic course. We take it to the
next level by setting the field for 650 participants.
Last year’s participants ranged from beginners to
nationally ranked tri-athletes. The 2005 event sold
out two weeks before the race date with almost 100
hopefuls trying to get in after registration closed.
Although participation is expanded, it is still
expected to sell out earlier this time around.

Participants are drawn to the event because of its
reputation, wonderful volunteers, and ideal location
with a picturesque race route that takes you around
The Woodlands community through the innovative
Market Street, Town Center, the Waterway, and the
wooded neighborhoods past cheering spectators.
These things earned us the “Top 10 in the USAT
South Midwest Region for sprint distance triathlons”
in 2004. The event culminates with a festive awards
party featuring music, great food, beverages and
cool door prizes.

Mechanic Tips of the Trade

With the MS150 just a few weeks off, here is a great maintenance tip to keep your bike running well. Our
Service Manager Jeff Bruno has a great service tip
to share: Cleaning your chain and gears will extend
the life of your bike.

Here's how to do it yourself:

1.Apply a chain degreaser like a citrus or ecotech to your chain and cogs - let it sit for 10 minutes.

2. Find a place to support your bike, you can lean it
up against something or use your trainer, bike rack
or bike stand. With one hand rotate the pedal
backwards and with the other hand hold the bottom
of the chain with a towel. As the chain moves
through the towel this will remove any surface dirt
and grime, if needed use additional degreaser on the towel.

3.
After cleaning the chain, take your rear wheel off
and wipe between each gear. Use a towel
dampened with degreaser to clean in between the
gears like dental floss

4.
Once you have cleaned the gears, replace your
wheel and lube your chain with a bike-specific
lubricant. Make sure this is a bike-specific lube
such as kryotech dry wax recommended by
Campagnolo and NOT WD40 or another penetrating
lube.

Don't want to get your hands dirty? Bring your
bike to Bikeland and let our helpful mechanics
take care of it for you!
